Drama|Working Record 1

Introduction :

In our piece we used a poem and a image of Alyan Kurdi on the beach as stimulus. Our piece was about a child being abused by his father , then a social worker comes to help but is too late . After receiving a distressing call from the child but it’s to late as  hem finds the child dead and the father gone . He then decides top kill himself as he’s been through a lot and can’t take any more. After seeing the stimulus I thought of a question , a question about the relationship between a father and his . I was the farther , Tyrese was the child and Ashan was the social worker. The whole image of Alyan Kurdi and the story made me uneasy and feel a little sad for the father With that as stimulus I got to thinking of father and son and how they should be together . The image of Alyan Kurdi was uneasy and in class we focused a little on how the man picked him up and carried him . Away from his body and he looked unfazed . I also though of how the father feels and how he’s coping with the death of his sons. And I want people to question the relationship’s between father and son and take the role of the social worker. They should have an opinion on whether or not the social worker was at fault for the child’s death on some level. Although this was not communicated through the piece I’d like people to think of the social worker as Alyan Kurdi’s father some time down the line . As the father shares a lot of qualities with Aylan Kurdi’s father. Both Family’s are dead and it’s said in the piece that the Social Workers father is dead Our central question was what is the relationship between the father and son . There could’ve been other questions like . How should a father treat his son , Was the Social worker wrong , Was it the child’s fault , Would you’ve intervened earlier and should the social worker took him we he first came to the house.

Item 1 :

My central question is What is the relationship between a father and his son. I though of this because my piece has a big bit of it where its father and son and seeing how Tyrese(the son) was treated by me(the father). From the image of Alyan Kurdi and hearing the story of how it happened I though about father and son . I thought about how the father tried to be closer to his son and thought of reversing it . I though of the father being away from his child and the child being abused. From the stimulus a number of scenarios could be thought of . You could think of refugees or father and son or just play it out . When I see the stimulus and think of basing a scene of it I think of some characters . A Father , Son and a Refugee . But the theme of all of them would be home and the piece would be about leaving or returning home. The idea we used was one of my first ideas but I had some others. Most were about leaving home and/or being a refugee but I decided to do something different as I thought most people would do this. One idea was that I’d be a refugee in a new country after fleeing and have to deal with coming to a new country after leaving my family and I’m haunted by my children’s ghost. With the idea we actually did there are pros and cons . Like the realism of it all . The socials workers death might not be realist ,  as well as the abuse by the father to the child . The are also pros to the idea. Like showing something different. The social worker is the most interesting character and the most complex. Throughout the piece we learn that child died . He also kills himself in the end due to things he’s seen and the people he’s lost . He also blames himself but this might not of come through because of some mistakes that were made my us . There we some cad mistakes like the end scene happening in the corner of the room and Tyrese beckoning me on stage while the camera could see him . This cause some awkward moments like walking on the stage sitting down then just walking off as Ashan forgot to say goodbye. Many things could have been included like the social worker could have been Alyan Kurdi’s father . As well as the positing of where we did some of our scenes. We should have stayed central always looking at the audience. After ashan left the house he should have walked home while taking on the phone to his boss not whilst in the sons room. The phone call Ashan received from Tyrese should have been a split screen with both actors placed right next to each other looking at the audience. Tyrese also made of not putting his hand on his forehead early enough to hide the cut as well as the mistake of dying in the corner so The suicide scene lost a speech that should have been faced to the audience that would’ve contained the social worker blaming himself then killing himself . The was many ways that piece could improved and it due to changes at the last-minute it suffered . My character was very simple an abusive father blaming his child for the death of his wife. My character was not based off a person it was just something I though of . If we had done things correctly I would’ve had more screen time and been able to share more about the character and let people see what type of person he was . I wanted my character to come off as dark and sad . Throughout the play I was relaxed and in a position which showed that I didn’t really care . The piece was not improvised a lot because we all new what we need to say and with my limited screen time I found myself with only 2 scenes , I also found myself directing/commanding my peers somethings they needed to do . My central question was What is your relationship with your father and I think we didn’t do that good a job of getting that message across and if we hadn’t loss a speech from the social worker at the end we would’ve .

English Classwork | Mr . Waugh

Q: What can we tell about Mr.Jaggers from the description of his servent.

A: She’s described as “her face to bear a curious expression of suddenness and flutter”. Charles has written that she bears a expression of sadness. I think this is a link to Jaggers and how he treats her.  Jaggers acts like the boss and embarasses her and generally bullies her. He also says flutter like a bid , Through this there are many links to her being a animal  “I observed that whenever she was in the room she kept her eyes attentively on my guardian, and that she would remove her hands from any dish she put before him, hesitatingly, as if she dreaded his calling her back, and wanted him to speak when she was nigh, if he had anything to say.” This is more proof of Jaggers and how she’s scared of him and does’nt say anything. Throught a bit she apperas she never speaks and keeps a eye on Jaggers. “Suddenly, he clapped his large hand on the housekeeper’s, like a trap, as she stretched it across the table. So suddenly and smartly did he do this, that we all stopped in our foolish contention.
“If you talk of strength,” said Mr. Jaggers, “I’ll show you a wrist. Molly, let them see your wrist.”
Her entrapped hand was on the table, but she had already put her other hand behind her waist. “Master,” she said, in a low voice, with her eyes attentively and entreatingly fixed upon him. “Don’t.”
“I’ll show you a wrist,” repeated Mr. Jaggers, with an immovable determination to show it. “Molly, let them see your wrist.” “Master,” she again murmured. “Please!”
“Molly,” said Mr. Jaggers, not looking at her, but obstinately looking at the opposite side of the room, “let them see both your wrists. Show them. Come!”
He took his hand from hers, and turned that wrist up on the table. She brought her other hand from behind her, and held the two out side by side. The last wrist was much disfigured,—deeply scarred and scarred across and across. When she held her hands out she took her eyes from Mr. Jaggers, and turned them watchfully on every one of the rest of us in succession.
“There’s power here,” said Mr. Jaggers, coolly tracing out the sinews with his forefinger. “Very few men have the power of wrist that this woman has. It’s remarkable what mere force of grip there is in these hands. I have had occasion to notice many hands; but I never saw stronger in that respect, man’s or woman’s, than these.”
While he said these words in a leisurely, critical style, she continued to look at every one of us in regular succession as we sat. The moment he ceased, she looked at him again. “That’ll do, Molly,” said Mr. Jaggers, giving her a slight nod you have been admired, and can go.” She withdrew her hands and went out of the room, and Mr. Jaggers, putting the decanters on from his dumb-waiter, filled his glass and passed round the wine.” This is a passage from the book which shows how Jaggers is the boss , bullies her and takes control. From this i can see that Jaggers is a bully who is feared and treats people hoe he wants. I also think thr clapped on her hands like a trap refers to he being a animal , even a caged bird which is scared of her owner and has tried to kill herself.

After this Pip kisses Estella’s hand and then her cheek but she’s about as moved as a statue and when he’s finished, she goes back to business as usual. As they get on the carriage and go to Estella’s new home she tells Pip that Miss Havisham is paying a rich friend to take care of Estella and to introduce her to “society.” Estella also tells Pip he’s expected to come visit as often as is “proper.” When the get there they say goodbye at her door. Pip is heartbroken when he leaves her and he gets even worse when he gets to the Pockets house. When he goes inside he finds Mrs. Pocket yelling about the fact that baby Pocket has swallowed some needles and she sent baby to bed as a remedy.

Pip’s spending all this money by hanging out with the Finches who meet to eat dinner every two weeks and get drunk , and when Pip first saw them he sees Bentley “the spider” Drummle. Pip and Herbert start not eating as much and  Herbert tries to keep a positive attitude about his career. After dinner Pi and Herbert do decide to calculate their debts. They order a delicious dinner from the Inn and a good bottle of wine and they add up all of their debts. After Pip puts the bills in neat little piles and this makes him feel better. After this a note is slipped under  the door saying that Pip’s sister died and that the funeral will be on Monday.

Chapter 35 : This chapter starts off with Pip is shocked by his sister’s death. When he gets to the funeral he finds a lot of people come and sees that Joe is very sad. Pip learns that Trabb is arranging the funeral and that Mrs. Joe’s casket is going to be carried across town. At the funeral Mr. Pumblechook is taking credit for Pip’s wealth and saying they were always friends. After the funeral Joe and Pip talk about old times and at night Pip and Biddy talk as well When Pip asks what she’s going to do now. Biddy yells him that she’s going to be a teacher. Biddy tells Pip that one day around tea-time Mrs. Joe asked for Joe and when he came she said, “Joe,” “Pardon,” and “Pip.” And then died. We also learn that Orlick still likes Biddy and is always watching her Pip is angry as he still suspects Orlick of killing Mrs. Joe. Pip then promises Biddy he will come home often to take care of Joe. But Biddy does not think he’s going to. Pip is annoyed that Biddy would think that. Pip then goes to sleep in his old room . In the morning Pip leaves the forge and promises to return soon.

Pip wants to give money to a friend who is interested in the merchant and shipping business. But Wemmick tells Pip that he’d have a better time throwing his money of a bridge than investing in his friend.

Chapter 37 : This chapter starts with Pip going to visit Wemmick’s castle. When he gets there, the Aged greets him and tells him that Wemmick is out as he lowers the drawbridge. When Wemmick gets home he has a women called Miss Skiffins with him . Pip asks Wemmick for help on to give Herbert money without him knowing. Wemmick tells Pip that there’s a shipping merchant in town named Clarriker who is Herbert could work with. As the Aged , Pip , Wemmick and Miss Skiffins have tea and sit around the fire Pip watches Wemmick try to sneak his arm around Miss Skiffins waist.

Chapter 38 : In this chapter we learn Pip is spending a lot of time at Richmond with Estella.Estella’s has also being introduced to society by one of Miss Havisham’s friends. We learn Estella just uses him to make the other boys jealous. Estella and Pip decide to go to Miss Havisham’s . At night Estella tells Miss Havisham about all of the men who are in love with her. Pip just realizes that Estella is Miss Havisham’s creation and is designed to wound and destroy every man that comes in her path. As the’The three are enjoying the accounts of the poor men who love Estella, when Estella decides to unhook her arm from Miss Havisham’s arm , Miss Havisham gets angry as she accuses her of being ungrateful and cold. While Miss Havisham rocks back and forth and moans Pip goes to go for a walk and when he returns, Estella is kneeling at Miss Havisham’s feet and knitting. Pip spends the night and Miss Havisham’s but cant sleep and when he gets back one day Pip is hanging out with the Finches at their club and Drummle says that he’s pursuing Estella and she likes him . Pip accuses Drummle of lying and the society decides that Drummle has to get evidence that he’s dating Estella which Drummle does. He shows the them a note Estella had written him. At a party soon after Pip watches Drummle talk to Estella all night. Pip walks up to Estella and asks her why she lets Drummle talk to her. Estella tells Pip that she’s just playing a game with all of the other people but does not play that game with Pip.

Chapter 39 : The chapter starts by telling us that Pip is now twenty three years old. Pip and haven’t see each other in a some time but are till friends . Herbert was in Marseilles on a business trip and Pip is alone. The story then goes to Pip walking around London when he hears a mysterious footstep. When the footsteps get louder Pip and the person got closer . We see that the footsteps were the convict Magwitch. The Magwitch is happy to see Pip and tells him that he is the benefactor.

Chapter 40 : At the beginning of the chapter Pip is walking around his house when he trips over a shadowy man who he sees that it’s Magwitch , Pip offers for Magwitch to stay at his and sleep in a bed. Pip looks at Magwitch while he rests and sees his gun and gets a little scared and thinks about how to get rid of him. At the dinner table Pip is disgusted and annoyed by the way Magwitch eats. Later on Pip secretly leaves the house while Magwitch is sleeping to go to Jaggers to see if Magwitch’s story about himself is true.

Chapter 41 : When Herbert gets back Pip tells him all about Magwitch and ask what to do .Magwitch leaves. Herbert tells Pip that he must stop using Magwitch’s money . Pip and Herbert discuss a plan for Pip to take Magwitch abroad where he will no longer be hunted by the police and will be much safer.

Chapter 42 : The chapter begins with Magwitch telling Pip his life story and how he was always in and out of jail. The story was : He was an orphan who began stealing at a very young age in order to feed himself. He then met Compeyson , a criminal who would forge money and pass stolen, the two worked together and were tasked to steal money from a rich women( who turns out to be Miss Havisham ) who Compeyson tricked. The two were caught but in trial Compeyson said Magwitch was the one who thought up the crime, Magwitch was handed a 14 year sentence while Compeyson got 7 years. Magwitch reminded Pip of the time he saw two convicts fighting in the ditch and revealed to him that it was him and Compeyson.

Chapter 43 : This chapter begins with Pip telling us how much his shrinking of Provis ( Magwitch ) may be traced to Estella. Pip also believes that he must leave Estella because his money is from a “lowborn” man. Later on Pip and Bentley Drummle bump into each other when the two to talk to each other they do it in a very unpleasant and sarcastic manner way. Pip then visits Satis house at the end of the chapter.

Chapter 44 : The chapter starts of with Pip at Satis house , Miss Havisham tells Pip that she let him believe that she was his benefactor. Miss Havisham and Estella get into an argument, the two argue in a very sarcastic manner where Miss Havisham is disliking the fact that Estella does not love, but she herself taught Estella not to love. Estella uses a metaphor about a child and the sun and goes on to talk about her not having any emotions that go along with the heart. Pip talks with Estella and tells her that he loves her but is coldly replied that Estella never deceived into thinking she shared his feelings, she admits that she is controlling Bentley Drummle and is playing with his feelings. She then informs Pip that she is due to marry Bentley Drummle. Pip then goes home but sees a note on his gate saying “DON’T GO HOME”.

Chapter 45 : Pip goes to Wemmick’s house ( castle ) Wemmick tells Pip that he has learned through Jaggers’s office that Compeyson is pursuing Magwitch. After staying the night there and having breakfeast, Wemmick tells Pip that Herbert Pocket is hiding Abel Magwitch at Clara’s house.

Chapter 46 : Pip goes to see Herbert at Clara’s house. When he gets to Clara’s house, Herbert tells Pip that Clara’s dad is a drunken mischievous ogre, “I am afraid he is a sad old rascal,” this quote supports the fact that Herbert tells Pip that Clara’s dad is a rascal and the quote “Don’t you smell rum? He is always at it.” shows us that her father is always drunk and of an ogre type. Pip is glad that he has removed Herbert and Clara from Clara’s father due to the current state of her father. Pip then finds Magwitch who has hiding upstairs and instead of feeling no sympathy or anything toward Magwitch he felt worried of Magwitch. The two discuss of a plan of sneaking Magwitch out and Pip agrees to go out and get a boat for the three, “I set myself to get the boat” this quote supports the fact that Pip has gone to get a boat and is planning to get them out.

Chapter 47 : This chapter starts of some weeks later with Pip and Herbert waiting for Wemmick to give the signal but it doesn’t come. Pip then remembers the fact that Estella has been married for some time to Drummle now but refuses to think about it an impression settled heavily upon me that Estella was married.Later on in the chapter Pip decides to visit the theatre to see Mr. Wopsle perform, once the play finished Wopsle confronts Pip to tell him that he saw him in the stands but also recounts of seeing another person behind Pip “Saw you, Mr. Pip!” he returned. “Yes, of course I saw you. But who else was there?” This quote reinforces the fact that Wopsle asked Pip who that was behind him and asked who else had accompanied him , but in truth only Pip visited the play. Pip believes that the person behind him was Magwitch but knows that he is safe and somewhere else “Of course, I was perfectly sure and safe that Provis had not been there.” This quote supports Pip’s self-questioning. Pip then believes that the man behinds him was Compeyson  “or the special and peculiar terror I felt at Compeyson’s having been behind me “like a ghost.” This quote supports the fact that Pip is scared and terrified that Compeyson was breathing over his shoulders “like a ghost”. The chapter ends with Pip rushing in fear back to Wemmick and Herbert to inform them of what Wopsle has just told him.

Chapter 48 :  Pip is invited by Jaggers to have dinner, While at dinner Jaggers informs Pip that he has received a letter from Miss Havisham. Molly, Jaggers assistant walks in on them having dinner and Pip sees a strange resemblance of Estella on the face of Molly. Pip then believes that Molly is the mother of Estella due to the strange resemblance between the two. Pip walks back home with Wemmick and cannot resist the urge to question Wemmick about Molly, he asks Wemmick who she was and how she ended up being a part of Jaggers life,”The same. How did Mr. Jaggers tame her, Wemmick?” the quote supports the questioning of Pip towards Wemmick and instead of Pip asking how she went to Jaggers he asked how Jaggers tamed her. Wemmick proceeds to tell Pip that Molly was accused of the killing of a woman and the killing of her daughter. Pip then questions the sex of the girl “Do you remember the sex of the child?”, to which Wemmick replies with “Said to have been a girl.” This quote supports Pip’s questioning and proceeds to believe that the daughter is Estella.

Chapter 49 : The chapter begins with Pip visiting Miss Havisham at Satis house, in response to the letter. Once he arrives Miss Havisham expresses her guilt of bringing up Estella in that way and leaving Pip without a person to love., Miss Havisham begins to question if Pip hates her due to what she had done “because you hate me too much to bear to speak to me?” the quote supports Miss Havisham’s questioning and her fear of losing Pip. The quote “O!” she cried, despairingly. “What have I done! What have I done!” enforces Miss Havisham’s guilt and her sorrow for what she has done to Pip. Pip then begins to question Miss Havisham of Estella, who here mother was? and how she was brought to her? To which Miss Havisham answers. After having his questions answered Pip proceeds to leave the Satis house and on his way out he looks back at Miss Havisham and sees her too close to the fire to which then she proceeds to fall and go on fire.”I looked into the room where I had left her, and I saw her seated in the ragged chair upon the hearth close to the fire, with her back towards me. In the moment when I was withdrawing my head to go quietly away, I saw a great flaming light spring up. In the same moment.” This quote supports the fact that Miss Havisham was on fire and also tells us that Pip rushed in to save her and burnt himself in the process in doing so. The chapter ends in telling us that Miss Havisham has suffered serious injuries and is seriously ill.

Chapter 50 : The chapter begins with Pip dressing the wounds from the fire on his arm. He proceeds to meet up with Herbert but the two don’t mention anything about the boat they brought for Provis. The two talk about Magwitch and how he was staying with Herbert last. Herbert tells Pip the story about Magwitch’s past and the woman of his past. When Pip is told about the woman in Magwitch’s past he closely relates the woman to Molly due to the matching story Wemmick told Pip about Jaggers’ servant, because of his chat with Herbert Pip now believes that the father of Estella is magwitch.”I know I am quite myself. And the man we have in hiding down the river, is Estella’s Father.” This quote enforces Pip’s theory and refers to Magwitch as “the man we have hiding down the river”.

Chapter 51 : With the information Pip has acquired about Estella’s father he visits Jaggers office to confront him and confront him and confirm that Estella’s father in truth is Abel Magwitch. Whilst at the office the two talk to each other about the to which Jaggers

EU Arguments |Mr.Murry

The reasons to stay:

There are Millions of jobs are linked to our EU membership . As far back as the year 2000, it has been claimed that three million jobs rely directly on our membership of the European Union. The figure was even cited by Nick Clegg during his time as Deputy Prime Minister. Some of Britain’s biggest trading partners are in the EU and some of Britain’s largest trading partners are in the EU. More than 50% of our exports go to EU countries, and our membership allows us to have a say over how trading rules are drawn up.With our membership its easier to travel and go abroad. Near 1.4 million British people live abroad in the EU, and having membership makes movement around the continent incredibly easy. Driving licences issued in the UK are valid in all EU countries. The European Arrest Warrant cuts out the need for long and complicated extradition procedures and allows criminals to be brought to justice across the EU. The EU is the world’s biggest market and plays a big role in world trade, climate change issues, development projects and more.

Reasons To Leave:

We will have border control back in our hands the good side of the freedom of work and travel for UK citizens is that people from other EU countries are free to travel to and live in Britain. Also UKIP leader Nigel Farage says any attempt by the Government to control immigration into the UK is futile as long as we are in the EU. We could make a large membership fee saving the EU charges a membership fee, and it has been claimed that the cost is around £55m per day. An analysis by Full Fact estimates the figure is closer to £24m per day when rebates and other receipts are taken into account. Institutions are seen as lacking democracy The European Parliament is directly elected, although the powerful Commission which proposes legislation is not. Because many of these laws supersede legislation made by individual states’ parliaments, some see the system as undemocratic. Other countries successfully go it alone Many Eurosceptics look to rich Norway as a country which trades with the EU without being in it. It also controls its own agriculture and keeps its fish, rather than being bound by EU quotas. Get rid of any threat to Britain’s military freedom There is a push within the ranks of the EU’s leaders for it to have its own army. The president of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker, said earlier this year that it would help show Russia the EU was serious about defending member values. In the past the British Government has been forced to block moves to create EU-controlled military forces.

Drama Homework 5 | Mr.Harris

I wanted them to think about what type of man the King is and the life people are living right now. We used semiotics like the wall to show the importance of things and the way things go around here . Because of certain semiotics it would’ve changed the mood to something darker . The audience might of thought that our play was dark and that the King in general was bad.
