This is a summary of Great Expectations by Charles Dickens Chapter 8 and 9

Chapter 8 : The start of this is Pip and Pumblechook eating and Pumblechook asking Pip maths questions . This chapter is mainly about Pip meeting miss Havisham . She is an old woman in an old , “rotting” wedding dress and when she first meets Pip she tells him that her heart is broken . It’s clear that she has been in this room a long time and was supposed to get married but never did . She ask Pip to play so he pretends to be a horse but eventually tells her that he feels weird . Pip plays cards with Miss. Havisham’s niece who is very mean to Pip . After leaving the room with Estella (Miss Havisham’s niece) they go to eat . She makes Pip feel bad about his hands and when she leaves he cries.

Chapter 9 : This chapter is about Pip coming home and telling Mrs.Joe and Mr. Pumblechook he tells them lies because he thinks that they wont believe the truth. He tells them she’s a tall dark-haired old woman who was sitting in a black velvet coach , We also learn that Mr. Pumblechook has never seen Mrs . Havisham . Pip tells Joe the truth about what really happened and Joe tells him to tell the truth.
